Communicators
The President: Commodore Peter Swan.
Formed in 1969 at HMS Mercury to enable serving and past members of the Royal Naval Communications Branch, in the rate of Chief Petty Officer, to hold an annual reunion. In 1995, association opened its doors to ratings of the rank of Petty officer, or equivalent, as associate members. As one of the founder members stated “It is this ‘common interest’ which may also be defined as Comradeship, Esprit de Corps, Unity, Loyalty or simply ‘Pride of Service’ - characteristics which are so lacking (in some quarters even scoffed at) in today’s modern society - that makes this Association so unique” The association is open to all serving and past members of the Telegraphist, Signal, Coder, Radio Operator, Communications Technicians (incl. Tel S) and Warfare (Communications) branches of the RN and WRNS; CPO and PO rates of the Signals and Communications Branches of the RFA and Royal Marine Sergeants and above who specialised in signals. Joining fee is five pounds, subscription is five pounds per annum. The association has two functions a year, a guest night, semi formal dinner in May and a reunion in September. These events, with entertainment, are at present held in HMS Collingwood, Fareham.
